CAFSC Petition has reached 10000 signature goal

The CAFSC Petition reached the 10,000 goal on September 27, 2009. The goal was reached in 10 months and 2 weeks, which means the approximate average signature rate was 1,000 a month. I would like to thank everyone who signed the petition and would encourage everyone who has not signed it, to keep it going!

Sadly, 49 of the 50 states have passed these laws, with Wyoming the lone sane exception. Also, Carolina Cartons has stated that all cigarette manufacturers will be producing fire safe cigarettes by the end of 2009.

It is incredible that the attempt to save 700-800 people from cigarette fires, will cause illness and death of millions of more people. The shear number of stories on the Petition site alone is amble evidence that the laws must be repealed. Besides writing your state congressman and senators, I encourage everyone to contact their US congressman and the President. I think it will very well come to the President of the United States to put a stop to this insanity.

We have met our goal and we will be writing my governor to present the results to him. We also will make these results known to President Obama and the Food and Drug Administration.

Everyone, please do whatever you can to help the cause. You may write and refer to the petition site at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/repeal-fire-safe-cigarette-laws to your State Senators and representatives, your governor, your US congressmen and President Obama. Voices crying out, who refuse to be silenced will eventually be heard and great wrong and injustice will be swept away!

I have contacted the FDA on this issue, and I know that many other smokers have complained as well. Let's hope that they realize the severity of this issue, and will do something to put a stop to these horrible, poisonous cigarettes!

(BULLETIN BOARD: ECOC) , a leader in the discovery and development of nanotechnology-enabled, ultraviolet-curable advanced coatings, announced that it has signed a collaboration agreement with a major tobacco company for the application of its technology for producing "fire standard compliant" (FSC) cigarettes. FSC cigarettes are designed to meet government reduced ignition propensity testing standards. Ecology has filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for its technology (see also Patents).

The agreement establishes the framework under which the two companies plan to test and commercialize FSC cigarettes using Ecology Coatings' unique paper coating technology. Milestone payments will be made to Ecology Coatings

The Coalition for Fire-Safe Cigarettes reports that approximately 40 states in the U.S. and Washington, D.C., have passed legislation calling for the production of FSC cigarettes (http://firesafecigarettes.org/). The Coalition's goal is to save lives and prevent injuries due to cigarette-induced fires. The Coalition reports that 99.8 percent of the U.S. population is now or soon will be governed by state fire-safe cigarette legislation.

Could This be a replacement plan for the Paper used in FSC that's killing us? Could this be just as bad?

I e-mailed two letters to Fox news today in hopes of getting some sort of response in this matter. We have to do anything and everything we can to get this law repealed. We really need to get the media's attention on this.

What marketing techniques can we use to get the word out further? With smokers kicked outside by law many places, it seems like passing around business cards and asking "sick of it yet?" would be a great way to get their attention.

This is a worthy cause and we need to keep it going, keep things working until the recognition of what these laws do--and the number of people willing to sign a petition or more--explodes.

Has there been any updates as to whether anything will be done to stop the manufacturing of the FSC cigarettes? I have e-mailed my state senator and rep. and have gotten absolutely no reply from them. I believe we will simply be ignored until we make them listen. Please let me know what I can do to make this happen.

I would love it if the person that started this site would kindly respond to it's followers. I feel like I'm typing on a ghost site! Many smokers are trying to help you get a stop put to this law, and you can't even respond to anyone!

Yea, this is bull****! I can't believe someone would be stupid enough to pass a law that would make so many people sick! I signed the petition, I have sent letters to all of the appropriate people, and yes, even the Pres. I have heard nothing back from any of these people. This has got to STOP! I bought all of the cigs I could from Tenn. before they went to the same thing. I am down to 10 pks and then I guess I will just stop smoking until they do something about this...I can't smoke the new ones. I hope the tobacco companies lose so much money that they will fight these Bastards who made the law in the first damn place. If the States loose the tax money from these nasty cigs...maybe they will pull them...everyone stop buying them now! Buy them from the net or overseas. Whatever you have to do to keep from buying them in your own state. If enough people do that, they will bring the old ones back. It all comes down to dollars, and they don't want to loose that.

I hate to say it but the petition that everyone is signing is not going to do a bit of good when it comes to our Government. The Government does not recognize online petitions and will not take one look at this petition. If we all want to do some good, we need to go to our local stores and start petitions with real signatures. Nothing will be done until this happens!

I will no longer be following this site because apparently, there is noone running it anymore. There has been absolutely no updates on this site, and in order to do any good, we need to be updated on the status of this issue every once in a while. I am not going to make any head way going through this website.

I have been taking a petition to the stores and people are signing it as soon as they read it. I will be moving from my local area later and reaching out to surrounding cities and counties. I have bought all the non-fsc cigs I can find and bought my own machine, tobacco and tubes to make my own as well. My petition cover is as such.

well I can see nothing has changed on this website. I have a very serious question...what good is this online petition actually doing? Has it made a bit of difference? I am out of ideas on what to do to get these FSC cigarettes banned. We could have 100,000 signatures, and it will never matter. We might as well get use to the fact that our Government doesn't give a damn about the smokers!

FSC or fire safe cigarette laws were passed state by state using deception and misinformation. FSC cigarettes greatly increase health risks for smokers. Smoking-related fires have actually increased for smokers in New York, the first state to pass the law. Ok folks, here is the reality of these so called fire safe cigarettes=they are going to kill every smoker that don't find a way around them.I myself was getting so sick about three weeks ago,my throat hurt my mouth was full of sores,my chest hurt,I had so severe headaches that it just made me so sick to my stomach.
Then everytime I lit a cigarette it was the same thing.
I first thought I had caught a virus, and then I started noticing everyone I hung around that smoked was feeling the same way.So I started investagating and noticed that there was something different about the cigarettes,I ask the clerk what that little fsc was and they told me,so I ask if they had any with out that and I guess I am one of the lucky ones that live in NC because I guess we were the last ones to switch over to fsc, anyway the clerk dug behind the first cigarettes to the back(this was important because when the clerk puts up new cigs they push what is already in there back)and anyway found about 10 packs without the fsc,I bought them and started hunting stores that not too many people go to and done the same thing,I guess I maybe got about 2cartons all together, well I smoked them carefully because I knew when they was out I would be sick again.and sure enough as soon as I had to buy the first new pack of fsc and took that first draw it burned my throat left a metal taste in my mouth, well I threw that cigarette down and threw the pack away.I went to the nearest smoke shop and bought me some rolling tubes and some cigarette tobacco ,but I knew that this would not be good enough(I never liked to roll cigarettes)so I talked to some friends and they suggested to buy cigarettes from other countries,we done some research and found out not only can you get cigs without the fsc but they would be cheaper,so one of my friends ordered us some cartons and they was exactly the name brands I smoke and THEY DID NOT HAVE FSC PAPER ON THEM ,I bought Mar*bo*os for $17.90 a carton, heres the secret(the cigarette companies here sell out of the country, and in other countries the have no duty tax on the cigarettes). So we talked to another friend that has deep pockets and talked him into starting up a website to order non fsc cigarettes to help out people and save them money. These are name brand cigs,I can't say the name but they have 100 different brands, and I bet yours is one of them.Anyway he is just waiting to cover all the legal stuff, but if you go here ( http://no-fsc.webs.com ) and book mark the page, the link to buy non fsc cigarettes should be up very soon.Just so you know this is not an out of date writing, todays date is April 14 2010.You might have to smoke roll ups till then, but Please don't smoke no more fsc, they are going to wipe out the majority of smokers and the media won't report it just because it is just cigarettes to them and thats no news, even if all the people died that smoked they still would not care because they would just say"they should not have been smoking anyway".
Just book mark that site and then you want have to worry about fsc anymore. Good luck, and put those fsc's down.

These FSC cigarettes are MORE dangerous than the old style. Last week I found 2 cartons of non FSC cigarettes and bought them at once. They were not my regular brand but they taste better than the FSC style. Lets get this law repealed !!!

I was disturbed by this recent coup by the anti-smoking tyranny to further it's mission to impact the health of American citizens.
I began to notice many of the same symptoms as others that have been smoking these FSC brands and questioned what was in this product that made it "fire safe".
It turns out the the major ingredient is Vinyl Acetate, which is commoly found in such things as carpet glue.
Here is a link to the toxicology report for Vinyl Acetate http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxprofiles/tp59.pdf

Of course, this report is only the inhalation hazard for vinyl acetate by itself not the inhalation hazard when combusted.
The naphthalene levels in the smoke from FSC cigarettes shoot up 15.8% and carbon monoxide 12.6%" which is a direct result of the decomposition of Vinyl Acetate when combusted.
We once had consumer protection through a diverse group of governmental agencies entrusted with our protection, but We the People should review what these agencies are doing for us or better yet to us if this can pass through without a word to the consumer.

Wow, this is rediculous! I am 22 years old and I have been smoking since the age of 16. I am in great shape and havent had any health issues... Gonna start off by saying that the new FSC cigarettes are horrible!!! I have had sever migranes, abdominal pains, very sharp pain in my left lung, weakness in my lower extremeties, a lump in my throat, dizziness, irratible and the smell of these new FSC cigarettes are far, far and far more worse then what the "normal, good" cigarettes used to be. My father has had the same symptoms that I have now and he started rolling his own cigarettes and all of these symptoms are no more. I mean... WTF! Seriously!!!
